Title: to Sarah Ogden

Writes from Mt. Holly, a present day township in Burlington County, New Jersey. Inquires about the condition of his son, Thomas, about whom he has received contradictory reports. Says he traveled to Washington, D. C. to obtain information and spoke with an officer from his son's regiment. The officer told him that his son had been taken prisoner, but could not say whether or not he was wounded. States it has been four weeks since his son was last seen on the field and there has been no mention of his name in any of the army lists. Envelope includes a three cent stamp.

Writes from Mt. Holly, a present day township in Burlington County, New Jersey. Informs Ogden his son was wounded and taken prisoner. Notes he obtained this information from a soldier who was captured at the same time. The soldier said that Thomas's wound had been treated. This information was confirmed in a letter received on 4 July from Dr. Armstrong of the 5th New York Cavalry, a fellow prisoner who, like Thomas, was being treated at Libby Prison Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. In a postscript, Ekings informs Ogden of the doctor's opinion on his son's wound.
