Cassedy is currently writing a biography of Mrs. Breedlove's father, James Winchester. He asks Mrs. Breedlove to have an engraving of her father made as a frontispiece for the book, which should be "as faithful to the truth of the countenance as the book itself will be to the character of the man." He expects that the upcoming presidential race will excite political controversy, and thus make the biography very popular Written at Cragfont

Written on the occasion of Breedlove's retirement from office. Cassedy does not believe current newspaper reports regarding Breedlove's mishandling of funds. He writes: "The allegation … is probably intended to affect the popular tide of the next Presidential Election: nothing is too base and unprincipled for the instrumentality of faction…" Written near Gallatin, Tennessee.
