Title: Battery Williams and winter quarters at Corinth, Miss.

A print of a photograph taken of Battery Williams in Corinth, MS. In October 1862, Confederate forces attacked Corinth in an attempt to recapture the strategically important rail lines there. Union forces had taken Corinth the previous spring and erected seven batteries to defend it. On 4 October 1862 the cannonade from Battery Williams devastated the Confederate troops attacking Battery Robinett[e]. Title: Corona College, Corinth.

A print of a photograph of the main building of the former Corona College in Corinth, MS. The building is three stories and made of brick. A horse-drawn ambulance is parked at the entrance. Note that the columns are also made of brick. Corona College was founded in 1857 as a female seminary. After the Battle of Shiloh in 1862, the Union Army commandeered the college to use as a hospital. The Army left the area in 1864 and burned the building to the ground, the college never re-opened. Civilian sitting in foreground, another standing with white frock coat in middleground, and a third on the other side of the tree from the second. The size of the final figure in contrast to the ruins gives evidence to the massive scale of the structure. Identified in Photographic History of the Civil War as "Mississippi Valley Mill."
