He writes that they received the King's Speech via the West Indies a few weeks ago and it seems a peace is very near. He gives his love to family and friends. Postscript asks him to have Mr. Moir send the state of his financial affairs. Charles Irvine was a soldier in the British army during the Revolutionary War.

For Jackson's receipt, see GLC04379.11. Crocker served as a paymaster, lieutenant, and captain for various Massachusetts regiments during the Revolutionary War. He identifies himself as the "Correspondent of Suffolk County" for the Society of Cincinnati for the state of Massachusetts.

Circular letter asking each member of the Society of Cincinnati for the state of Massachusetts to come to the meeting on the next fourth of July and bring twenty-four shillings to pay for an assessment and diploma. Edwards was the society's secretary. During the Revolution, he served much of his time under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Henry Jackson and also served as acting Judge Advocate at West Point.
