Claims that Porter did not perform any act forbidden by the laws of neutrality. Confirms that President John Quincy Adams has ordered an inquiry into Porter's actions. Refers to a statement issued (not included) by Porter concerning his conduct in Key West.

The card, signed by George T. Brown, admitted Kellogg and his family to the inauguration.

Note at top says this is a typed copy of the last letter written by Willard to his/her mother. It is dated 27 June 1897, but it is unclear when this manuscript was typed. Sent to "My dear desk-mate of well-nigh 40 years ago." Can picture mother perfectly: straight well-built figure, grace, fine face and brow, and dark eyes. Says she was studious and earnest.
