Addresses letter "dear couson." Writes that they received a letter for Maggie, but tells her that she has gone home. Informs her that "we want you to pick hops for us..." Tells her that they went to Oneonta Plains for the Fourth of July, but their wagon broke. Asks that they come to Maryland. Reports that they are short of "pickers." Signature is illegible. Envelope addressed to Della Gillett in South Valley, New York. Postmarked from Maryland.

Henry writes to his sister from a fort in Virginia. Name of fort is illegible. Expresses concern about his father's sprained ankle. States that he does expect to get paid soon. Henry writes to his parents and sister from a fort in Virginia. Name of fort is illegible. Reports he has a fever and chills. States he is going to enlist for five years to fight the Indians on the frontier. Requests news from home. Mentions all the articles of clothing he has purchased since he enlisted.

Cousin Marrill writes to Angeline from Indiana. Reports her father is very ill and insane. Refers to cousin Josiah's war injury. Comments that rebels have attacked several places in Indiana "...but our own brave Indiana boys are enough for them." Discusses the possibility of her mother moving east. Letter was probably written in 1865.

Henry writes to his sister from the hospital in Fredericksburg. Comments on a possible transfer and his hope to spend the winter in Vermont. Mentions the draft, but feels he is exempt now. Refers to a dream he had about a neighbor whose grave he dug. Letter has "U.S. Christian Commission" logo.

Letter written to "my dearest sarah," gives her battle details, noting that they are still on one side of the Rappannock River and that the Confederates are on the other. Describes his brigade, which is commanded by Generals Amiel Whipple and Samuel Carroll. States that Carroll is called "a perfect Bull Dog to fight we can he hear him command a mile... you ought to see us jump for we are all afraid of him... Although he states, "I believe that I told you that I got my face disfigured in the last fight at Chancerlsville [Chancellorsville] on Sunday last they shot of the left side of my mustachie as nice as a pair of shears could have clipped it..." Inquires about her health, noting that she was ill when he left. Tells her that he will either come home to recruit or will be consolidated elsewhere and mustered out. Title: to Sallie Logan

Writes to his wife that he has not heard from her in over four weeks. Tells her that her brother Clement has returned to the company and is well. Asks that she write to him and inquires about the money he sent. Reports in great detail about the harvest, describing apples, cherries, and other fruits and vegetables. Notes that "my health is not improving and I now weigh one hundred and forty pounds last winter I weighed one hundred and eighty nine." Also informs her that he is in command of the picket.
