15 July 1862
Lincoln, Abraham, 1809-1865
Letter signed
Title: to Galusha A. Grow
Requests that the House of Representatives postpone adjournment at least one day. Although it is not mentioned in the letter, the extension was needed to complete the Confiscation Act, which was passed July 17, 1862. The body of the letter is in the hand of John G. Nicolay, Lincoln's secretary. It is very unusual that the letter is signed "Abraham Lincoln," instead of "A. Lincoln." Grow was the House speaker. Basler, Roy P.
