Title: Military Stores remaining in the State of Virginia.

Lists quantities of ordnance held by the Continental Army in Virginia shortly after the siege of Yorktown. Colonel Edward Carrington was then mobilising the stores to be held in Virginia for the use of the Southern Army, under the charge of Deputy Field Commissary of Military Stores Jones (see GLC02437.01284). Contains a lengthy list of books and their prices. Possibly related to Henry Knox's bookstore, which his brother William helped operate while Henry served in the military. A note at the bottom of page indicates, "Dead stock that will neither sell at vendue or private sale for sterling lost."

A general court martial of Cornet Paul W. Dermott will commence the following morning, and be presided over by Major Burbeck. A Lieutenant Blue has brought charges against Dermott, but Blue is also under court martial for charges by a Captain Webb. News of Lieutenant Jonathan Taylor's resignation. Notice of an election for a pay mastership of the 4th Sub Legion. Wayne was the general in command of the United States Army in Greeneville, Ohio.

Also pardons Thomas Weldon and James Smith, currently under sentence of death, with "hopes that their future good conduct will justify the mercy now extended." Specifies duties in regard to Clothier General R.J. Meigs. Each Sub Legions pay master is to account for Meigs all clothing received and distributed to troops. The Quarter Master General will deliver all public clothing in his possession to Meigs. The Adjutant General will countersign returns. Commanding officers must also make notes of when terms of enlistment for commissioned officers and soldiers will expire. Harris is charged with fraudulently obtaining money from the public. The orders list the specifications of the charges against him, including repeatedly charging and receiving money from the United States for his pay, rations, and subsistence as an Ensign in the Legion when he knew he was not entitled to it or had already received it. Hamilton praises Hutson as "a gallant soldier," and "educated & accomplished gentleman, of high moral tone and great integrity of character." He remarks that as his former colonel he often regretted that Hutson had not gotten the promotion he so deserved. Charles was a Corporal in the 1st South Carolina Infantry during the Civil War.
