Signed by Lieutenant Murphy as aide-de-camp to Union General Pleasonton. Serves as a congratulatory message from General William S. Rosecrans after Pleasonton forced the retreat of General Price during Price's Raid. Rosecrans declares "The pursuit of over three hundred miles accomplished in so short a time, contending a considerable portion of the war, and victory so decisive over such odds, will rank among the brilliant achievements of any war, and cover with honor all who have been engaged in it." At the time, Rosecrans was commanding the Department of the Missouri.

"Letter from an Eye-Witness" details the victory of Union General Andrew Smith over Confederate Cavalry General Nathan Bedford Forrest from the point of view of the 12th Iowa. Republican campaign ribbon supporting Abraham Lincoln for President printed with "Wide Awake," and a large eye. Printed on white silk. Thousands of young men turned out in "Wide Awake" torchlight parades in support of Lincoln. The Wide Awakes are credited with helping Lincoln win the Republican presidential nomination at the Wigwam convention Hall in Chicago. Their stand against slavery helped bring the party to greater national attention.
