For Jackson's receipt, see GLC04379.11. Crocker served as a paymaster, lieutenant, and captain for various Massachusetts regiments during the Revolutionary War. He identifies himself as the "Correspondent of Suffolk County" for the Society of Cincinnati for the state of Massachusetts.

Circular letter asking each member of the Society of Cincinnati for the state of Massachusetts to come to the meeting on the next fourth of July and bring twenty-four shillings to pay for an assessment and diploma. Edwards was the society's secretary. During the Revolution, he served much of his time under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Henry Jackson and also served as acting Judge Advocate at West Point.

In his letter to Baron von Steuben at the founding convention, he described two medals and recommended the one drawn here (see GLC04379.23). The actual medal issued resembles this drawing, but has some differences. On the real medal, the wreath extends above the head, there is an inscription along the perimeter of the emblem on the eagle's breast, and the feet holding the branches are visible.
