States that he has full confidence that Spain will "do full justice to Mr. Pollock, according to the truth of his case." Requests that Viar and Jaudenes interfere to have Pollock's case examined at the proper place.

Collection of wartime manuscript maps with copies of other war items related to Stanley. 37 maps document Sherman's army from Chattanooga to Atlanta, the march to the sea and then up to the Carolinas. The last map (38) is the Battle of Chancellorsville. Stanley enlisted as a corporal in July 1862 at Elmira and served in the 107th New York Vols., as a topographical engineer. A duplicate commission (in this collection) notes him as first Lieutenant in the 65th New York. The maps are illustrated in Earl B. McElfresh, Maps and Mapmakers of the Civil War pp. 120, 177-181.

First two pages outline the "Organization of the First Division, Twentieth Corps. Commanded by Brig. Genl. AS. Williams. Pages 3-40 include the diary of the Atlanta Campaign, with almost daily entries from 4 May 1864 to 2 September 1864. There is reflection at the end, including statistics on killed, wounded, and missing, and comments that "This probably has been one of the most memorable Campaigns in the history of the War." States "But Slavery has been abolished ... not by the voluntary act of the States in which it existed, but by the events of the War, and it is now proposed by those who have overthrown 'the institution' in these states to deprive them their due ... representation according to population unless the blacks are enfranchised." General Flournoy expresses alarm and seeks information about Smith's situation near St. Mary's, Georgia. Indicates that he is ordering reinforcements for him. Flournoy was a lawyer before serving in the War of 1812, when he succeeded General James Wilkinson as commander of the 7th Military District (Mississippi Territory, Louisiana, and Tennessee) and had the major responsibility of fighting the Creek Indians.

The collection contains 136 letters (122 war-date) mostly from Private Christian M. Epperly to his wife, Mary Epperly, living in Floyd County. The collection also contains a few letters from Mary Epperly to her husband. Throughout the war, Epperly's units consistently managed to avoid major engagements until the Atlanta Campaign of 1864. In his letters, Epperly frequently discusses deserting the Confederacy. Written by Flag Officer Goldsborough as commander of the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron to Commander Missroon as commander of the naval forces off Yorktown, Virginia on board the USS "Wachusett." Says Missroon's request for a general supply of ordnance is too indefinite. Asks him to state to Captain Poor what he really needs. Tells him to mention both quantities and kind. Also includes a carte de visite of Goldsborough (10.1 x 6 cm.) sitting in his naval uniform.

Signed by Commodore Hollins of the Confederate Navy to General Winder as commander of the Department of Henrico. Says this letter will be carried by B.L. Haden (the docket says Hayden), a loyal Confederate who wishes to visit Maryland. Asks Winder to supply him a passport. The docket says the passport was granted. Before the Civil War Hollins had fought Barbary pirates for the U.S. Navy. On 29 June 1861, he disguised himself as a woman and took control of the Chesapeake Bay steamer "St. Nicholas."
