Contains secretarial signature of Woodhull as President of the Provincial Congress. This resolution was probably passed in fear of a British landing in New York after the presumed withdrawal of the British Army from Boston. (Henry Knox had brought the cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in mid-February 1776 and General Howe decided to evacuate Boston three days after this resolution was passed. Stanford was a Baptist preaching working in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania at the beginning of the Second Great Awakening. The diaries are dated 1) February-March 1798; 2) January-July 1799; 3) September-December 1799; 4) January-December 1800; 5) January-December 1801; 6) January-December 1807; 7) January 1812-June 1813. The diaries chiefly record Stanford's spiritual reflections and his activities as a preacher.

Indicates that providing such information "I think it will save me, at any rate you." Passed to Winder's nearby prison cell, with Winder's unsigned autograph reply in pencil: "I knew of nothing except the reports from the prison, the reports of inspecting officers & newspaper statements." Written on scrap of lined paper.
