A new version of Dixie printed on the back of a sheet of checks from the Bank of Virginia. Contains 9 stanzas. Some very virulent anti-Lincoln lines, including "Old Abe is good at stealing niggers." Note on upper right in pencil says "Printed at Richmond, Va. 1861" What appears to be a title says "Running Air - "Dixie" Rhymes."

Pro-secession broadside issued by Confederate General Richard Taylor, F.H. Hatch, R.A. Hunter, and Emile Lasere, as the Committee on the part of the Louisiana Delegation at Charleston and Baltimore. Discusses preserving the sovereignty of Louisiana, the Democratic candidates for the 1860 election, the state of politics in Louisiana, and the importance of protecting the institution of slavery. Published by order of the Democratic State Committee. Accompanied by collateral envelope "F. H. Hutch to R. Taylor Esq, St. Charles, New Orleans Augt 29, 1860."

One long sheet. Prints a Tennessee Confederate call to arms and secession published when Tennessee was attempting to secede from the Union. The lower half of this broadside includes a section entitled "Can Tennessee Stand Alone?," which asks the question of whether Tennessee should stay joined to the Confederate states, or attempt to stand alone as a individual, separate nation.

An official call to arms by Alabama Governor Andrew Barry Moore, saying President Jefferson Davis has asked for 3,000 volunteers. Issued after the Confederate government moved from Montgomery to Richmond. Says volunteers must provide their own uniforms, other clothing, and blankets, "for which a commutation will be allowed them in money. "Illustrated with a large confederate flag (7 stars) at top.

Reports that James Madison was nominated for president and Langdon for vice president by Republican Congressional Caucus. Congratulates Langdon and describes his nomination as "made without the solicitation or intrigue of any one of your acquaintances, I consider it made purely on principle." Hopes Langdon will accept the nomination. Macon was a North Carolina congressman. Langdon declined the nomination.

Urges Langdon to accept the nomination for vice president, claiming that "Your not declining the nomination to the vice presidency is, in my opinion, essential to Union, Republicanism and the public welfare." Heaps praise on Langdon. Earnestly exhorts him to take the nomination for the public good and to avert the creation of factions in the party, "which will lead to toryism and perhaps worse consequences." Langdon declined the nomination.

Comments on the difficulties facing the nation, claiming that "In this awful period of arms, & calamities, when the whole system of nature appears to be convulsed, the Republic has a right to the service of its citizens." Urges him to consent to the nomination. Langdon declined the nomination.

This document is a Presidential pardon in which President Andrew Johnson granted Philip D. Roddey a full pardon and amnesty from crimes committed during the rebellion. Roddey was nicknamed "the Swamp Fox of Tennessee." The pardon was countersigned by the Secretary of State William H. Seward and accompanied by a paper seal.
