Title: To the people of the State of Louisiana

Announces that all the Confederate forces in the states east of the Mississippi River have been surrendered to the United States and that the armies of Generals Robert E. Lee, Joseph E. Johnston, and Richard Taylor are prisoners of war. States that the surrender of the Confederate forces in the states west of the Mississippi River must soon be made. Advises citizens not to form groups of military resistance as it will only result in further devastation.

File contains two documents, a broadside and an autograph letter signed. Broadside, which says "Circular" at the top, says he has received from Major J.L. Power, Superintendent of the Army Records of Mississippi Troops, many blanks for the "collection of deceased soldiers arrearage." Says those wishing their claims made out and forwarded to the government should call on him at Carthage, Mississippi with a credible witness. Selections from the French medical manual "Précis de Bandages," first published in Paris in 1858 by Goffres. This edition was created "By Order of the Surgeon-General." Published in Richmond by Ayres & Wade. Front free endpaper is inscribed "Sr Surg WO Owen Lynchburg." Has sections for applying bandages to the head, trunk, upper extremities, and lower extremities. Contains 12 illustrated plates of how to bandage battlefield wounds, including leg and arm amputations.

Title: A manual of military surgery, for the use of surgeons in the Confederate States Army: with explanatory plates of all useful operations

Written by Chisolm as Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of South Carolina and as a surgeon in the Confederate Army. He was considered the foremost surgeon in the Confederate states, and this book was the mostly widely used surgical manual used by the Confederate Army. Published by Evans and Cogswell. Third edition copy "carefully revised and improved." Only three editions were published. Dedicated to Confederate Surgeon General Samuel Preston Moore. Signed by Confederate Cavalry officer Captain T. B. Holland, who served under General J. E. B. Stuart and General Fitzhugh Lee. Printed by West and Johnston, 145 Main Street, Richmond, Virginia. Holland served in Co. F. Virginia Cavalry (Bedford Cavalry). The signature on the rear pastedown is dated "Franklin Co. Va January 9th 1863." There are no notes in the text, which is a listing of 1364 army regulations revised from the army regulations of "the old United States Army" as well as a listing of the articles of war in the appendix (a total of 102 articles). This was signed while Jackson was serving as a brigade commander in the military department of East Tennessee. Published by J.W. Randolph at 121 Main Street, Richmond, Virginia. Marked on title page as "corrected and enlarged with a revised index." Also marked on the same page as "the only correct edition." Has 47 articles with 1536 listed regulations for the army. Title: Correspondence Between the War Department and General Lovell, Relating to the Defences of New Orleans

Contains two reports in one bound volume. One is a printing of the correspondence pertaining to Major General Mansfield Lovell's defense of New Orleans in 1862 and the second report is the correspondence of Louisiana Governor Thomas Overton Moore. Both relate to the failure of Confederates to hold off the Union fleet at New Orleans in 1862. Both Printed by R.M. Smith of Richmond, Virginia. Recruitment broadside for John Sherman's Brigade's 65th Ohio Regiment, created by Recruiting Lieutenant J.N. Victor. Printed on dark blue paper. Announces that "In this, her hour of need, your country asks assistance. Patriots and Freemen! will you refuse?" Says he is prepared to enlist a company of men from Erie and Lorain Counties with headquarters at Milan, Ohio. Wants three-year recruits or to enter for the duration of the war. Regiment is at Camp Buckingham near Mansfield, Ohio. Says regular army officers to lead the regiment. Headquarters over Edridge's Store, Milan, Ohio.
