The Massachusetts Legislature had voted to award Knox extra lands within the patent to make up for lands never properly awarded to him, and had commisioned Davis to survey the area and choose what lands to award him.

The document is dated "June 25/8," which was assumed to be 1908 from adjacent documents in the file.

It appears to be a person with the last name Sartoruis and a note in pencil at the top of the document indicates the person was an admiral, although this could not be proven. Writes to offer melons from his "quinta" (means vineyard in Portuguese) to the recipient. Letter is dated 26 August, but no year was provided. Sartorius was British Admiral in 1861, he served in Portugal after 1865.
