A proper soldier's burial will suffice.

Mentions the arrival of his personal items, as well as "the lock of hair which you sent me," which she "put in a very neat little pin." Concludes by once again thanking both Mrs. Ogden and Mrs. Hastings.

His wife has absconded after being brought under investigation in the death of her child from an overdose of laudanum. Says Brown remains ill with a huge debt owed to his landlady. Requests that Ogden send her money and try to get in touch with his mother, who lives in Brownstown, Maine.

Informs Ogden that Mrs. Garde requests that Ogden send her information regarding Hathaway's stay in Philadelphia. She would like to know whether he mentioned her name, or the names of any of his kin. Concludes by thanking Ogden for taking care of him and changing him to a belief in "Christ the saviour of sinners."

In a postscript, states that Ogden will not have to have her letter translated.

Enclosed thirty dollars in the letter (not included), for the purchase of an air-tight coffin. In a postscript, asks that she responds to his letter upon its arrival.

Pankow, who was engaged to William Hartman, tells Ogden that he kept two pictures of the two of them. Requests Ogden sends her the pictures if possible. Mentions that Mr. Hartman's son-in-law's brother, a "comrade of William," would have visited Ogden when he was in Philadelphia, but did not receive the letter in time. States that the family received the body and opened the coffin because they "could not bear to have the body of their beloved son as near and not see him." She concludes by thanking Ogden for caring for William.

Jones is at the Broad and Cherry Street Hospital. He returns the letter, telling her that Jones will come to Ogden to get the draft because he is "in want of the money very much." Mr. Jones explains that if the Mr. Jones in question needs more money, he should write to him, and he will send him some.

Asks about the Broad and Cherry Hospital, wishing that she could be there. Informs Ogden that she will be returning in a few weeks.

Says he plans on visiting the hospital soon, and requests that Ogden please send a copy of his letter to Cornelia because writing materials are scarce, and he left his behind.

States she hopes that Ogden's efforts are rewarded by God, and asks that Ogden please write to inform her whether or not Alphonse will obtain a discharge.

Upon arriving there, she found that the doctor was not there. Writes that Mr. Harmon was at their house that morning and left a note from the doctor. Written to "Sallie," likely referring to Sarah Ogden.
