Title: Monumental Inscriptions!

Depicts 6 fictitious funeral monuments, each to a militiamen executed by Jackson on 21 February 1815, after the Battle of New Orleans, for being deserters. The tombstones bear inscriptions detailing how each was a good man and soldier, and regardless of this, was "By the Orders of General Andrew Jackson, Shot to Death." Each monument was supposedly erected on 4 July, 1828. One monument reminds the reader "Let not the splendor of Military renown Blot out from your indignant recollection this bloody deed DONE BY A HERO." Consular documents from Bahia, Brazil: 2-page "Marine Note of protest" and 10-page "Public Instrument of Declaration and protest." Clerical signature of Henry Libbey, master of the ship "Kate Prince" on page 2. Two clerical signatures for Peixoto on pages 2 and 11. Peixoto's signature is also on page 2 and 12. Document says Libbey was in command of the "Kate Prince," a ship based out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, that was captured by the Confederate privateer "Shenandoah" on 12 November 1864. He was released after signing a $40,000 bond. This document is a copy of the protest of that bond.…

With interleaved and bound-in diary of Reverend Joseph Lee of Concord containing accounts of his daily life. Most important entries deal with troop movements around Crown Point and Ticonderoga. The printed portion includes advice on health of soldiers and descriptions of a Tory and a Whig. Lee was tried by his fellow citizens as a Tory in April 1775 and confined to his farm until June 1776.
