Writes to his mother from Emory Hospital to tell her that he received her letter and is very sorry to hear that their father is sick. Gives her details about his trip to the Regular Barracks. Tells her that Miss Brown came for a visit on the second day of his absence. He is disappointed that she did not leave her address because he gets a "great deal of pleasure from her acquaintance." He reports that, "in regard to James, I have not given up yet though there is certainly not much hope of our ever seeing him again."
