Discusses an accusation made against Samuel Shaw and the court proceedings. Reports that testimony depicted Shaw as a man of good character. Left before the end of proceedings, but believes that "nothing had then been said which I conceived could induce a verdict unfavorable to Shaw." However, as the jury is taking a long time to deliberate, there may be points in the case that he missed hearing. Considers some of the legal questions involved in the case.

Briefly touches on other topics, such as her daughters' move to Philadelphia and her recently improved health. Written at Delaware Works, located in what is now Morrisville, Pennsylvania, near Trenton, New Jersey.

Schuyler's original was written at Barbados Neck. He lists stipulations for leasing his copper mines to Hoffman. Provides details on the length of the lease (21 years). Limits locations in which Hoffman can dig for ore. Requires eight men to work in the mines for at least eight months per year.
