Captain Joseph Brooks was tried at a general court martial for not paying his debts, falsifying his word, and for claiming a Virginian named Robert Cunningham was of good repute. The court, presided over by David Strong, acquitted Brooks of the charges. Wayne was the general in command of the United States Army in Greeneville, Ohio.

Captain Isaac Guion of the 3rd Sub Legion will resume his duty as Sub Legionary Major and Inspector. States that the quartermaster will order the horses arriving from Fort Hamilton be sent with a shipment of flour to the port on the St. [Shary?]. Orders that the sawyers and boat builders will continue their business without interruption. Wayne was the general in command of the United States Army in Greeneville, Ohio.

Orders non-commissioned officers and privates of Captain Pike and Isaac Guion's companies of the 3rd Sub Legion to go under the command of Captain Pike to Fort [Nassau?]. Reports that Major Burbeck will order one sargeant and eight matrosses from the 1st Battalion of Artillery to join the detachment under the command of Lieutanant Underwood. Indicates clothing orders for these men should be made out, including clothing for the men that reengaged or enlisted on March 5. Wayne was the general in command of the United States Army in Greeneville, Ohio.

Isaac Lindsay, charged with desertion, was found guilty of absenting himself without leave and sentenced to 25 lashes. Jacob Bruner, charged with desertion from Captain Pierce's Company of Artillery, was found guilty and sentenced to 100 lashes, but due to mitigating circumstances, was recommended to the Commander in Chief for remission of the punishment. Notifies that the Commander in Chief accepts the resignation of Doctor Daniel Bryan as Hospital Storekeeper, and appoints Doctor David Davis into the position. Reports that the corporeal punishment sentenced to Thomas Mattingly of Captain Lewis's Company on 15 September 1795 for leaving his port to sleep, will take place tomorrow. It was postponed because he was ill or pretended to be ill. The punishment will be carried out tomorrow. Wayne was the general in command of the United States Army in Greeneville, Ohio.

States Charles J.C. Hutson has asked her to marry him and she has accepted. Says Hutson will write to him tomorrow. Asks for his consent. Discusses her mother's death and says she wishes she could be here. William F. Colcock and Emmeline L. Huguenin were the writer's parents. Emmeline L. Huguenin died in 1858. Emmeline Colcock died late in 1861 before they were married. Hutson later put this letter in an envelope with a note, "My dear Emmeline's letter to her Father upon our engagement . . ." Their engagement is also discussed in GLC08165.29, and GLC08165.30.

Charles was then on furlough from the 1st South Carolina Infantry, where he served as a Corporal during the Civil War. Colcock refers to Charles' letter from 7 September 1861, in which Charles hoped for Emmeline's recovery, commenting that he weeps when he reads it. He feels bound to Charles. Colcock wrote a note in pencil at the bottom of p. 3 indicating that "Willie has arrived." Willie is William F. Colcock, Jr.
