The retained copy book record of army officers' letters and telegraphs concerning the affairs of the Twentieth Infantry. Discusses the removal of the Winnebago tribe of Indians, which is being hampered by white men who trade with the tribe, specifically a lawyer named Lee. To ease the removal the army has captured Indians in a series of raids, including a chief named Big Hawk and seventy three of his men. A series of questions typed on the back of stationery from the Hotel Royal Palm, in Fort Meyers, Florida, with answers written by Edison in pencil. Most questions concern his experiments in trying to find alternative plant sources for rubber. Other topics include agriculture, and mobile electric power for farming. Each page numbered 1-18. Circa date inferred from telegram from Edison in Fort Meyers, Florida (see GLC05791.02). The written interview was given by Wheeler McMillan, an agrarian. Secretary of State Madison sends a copy of a letter from Samuel Snow, United States Minister to Canton, to Jarvis, United States Consul in Portugal. Sent with GLC03329.01, dated 14 January 1803. Snow informs Madison that the Chinese government desires foreigners to depart from China after the business season ends in April. States that most Consuls retire to Macao, a nearby Portugese settlement, until the business season resumes in September. Requests that Madison obtain the Portugese Government's permission for his Maceo residence from Jarvis.
