The document is typed by Lt. Col. Hubert D. Barnes to the Adjutant General in Washington, D.C.The troops marched through France and Belgium at the beginning of October to a town near Weiswampach in Luxemburg. It was a very rainy month. A list of enemy materials the battalion destroyed and damaged are listed. Enemy action was focused on improving defense positions and sporadic bursts of artillery. Two casualties, but both were being treated for their injuries. Because of little enemy action, an emphasis was being placed on training. The Red Cross also visited to show a movie.

The document is typed by Lt. Col. Hubert D. Barnes to the Adjutant General in Washington D.C. The weather is cold, rainy, and snowy. This has necessitated troop movement and fortification of resources. A Sanitary Engineer visited because Hoof and Mouth disease is prevelant. A chaplain visited to give Sunday service on November 10. The month was focused on training and observing enemy movement. Several instances of enemy bombing occured, and few rounds of artillery fire. A summary of destoyred and damaged materials is listed.

The document is typed by Lt. Col. Hubert D. Barnes to the Adjutant General in Washington, D.C. There is a hand written note in the top left corner, and it is signed "Hubert D. Barnes." A paragraph is struck out in pen, and several spelling or grammar corrections in pen are made. Barnes indicates this month was very trying and hard for the troop. There was heavy bombing and artilllery fire, and a violent conflict took place at Villeroux. There is a list of casualties, K.I.A, and M.I.A. as well as troop and enemy damage reports. The last indicated stop was Bouillon, Belgium.

Once the troop was successful at Houffalize, Belgium, they marched to Selestat, France where the battalion joined the 1st French Division on January 21, 1945. During this month, the Colmar operation was successfully executed despite very difficult circumstances due to weather. A record of damage to the enemy is listed, and the battalion suffered no casualties. The last recorded location is near Holtzwihr after the Colmar operation. At the end of the month, the battalion received all required replacement vehicles.

The continued troop movement made re-supplying difficult and maintenance, so vehicles were not in good condition. The last indicated stop was Gauting, Germany near Munich. Many prisoners were captured who had deserted the German army or became lost.

The document is typed by Lt. Col. Hubert D. Barnes to the Adjutant General in Washington, D.C. Barnes notes that the German soldiers have lost battle resolve. On May 6th, it was announced that German Army group "G" surrendered, thus ending the battalions front battle in Miesbach, Bavaria, but there were many prisoners to process. Despite the announcement of V.E. Day, the soldiers remained somber as the war was not over until the East was won. No battle casualties were suffered in the last ten days of war, and a total of 42,489 rounds were fired during their ten month tour with all four active…

Title: Freedom to Serve: Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Forces: A Report by the President's Committee

Final report of President Truman's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services. The committee was established by Executive Order 9981, on July 26, 1948. Its purpose was to recommend revisions of military regulations in order to implement the government's policy of equality of treatment and opportunity for all members of the armed forces, regardless of race, color, religion or national origins. The committee, chaired by Charles Fahy, terminated upon submission of its final report on May 22, 1950. The final report was entitled Freedom to Serve.

Griffiths writes on behalf of the Rochester Ladies' Anti-Slavery Society. Testimonies are followed by lithographed signatures. Includes the signatures of William H. Seward, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Lewis Tappan, Horace Greeley, and Charles Sumner, among others. Contains "The Heroic Slave," by Frederick Douglass.
