Colonel Jackson writes to Brigadier General Knox in Morristown, New Jersey. Chides Knox for not writing to him through the last post. Comments that Boston will choose representatives the same day he writes. Expresses relief that Henry's wife, Lucy, and their child recovered from a recent bout of smallpox. In closing, requests Knox to procure an order "for the Cloth & Arms & other necessary's for my Regt- dont forget I shall be ambitious to make as good an appearance in field..." Notes at the top of page one that he is "in excellent health."

McParlin sends news of himself and asks for more letters from his wife. Writes about life and work at the hospital in Annapolis, Maryland. Comments on religion, friends, and food. Has been so cold that he has been using his "buffalo robe." Troops and officers received apples from the "patriotic merchants" of New York and turkey as well for Thanksgiving. There is text loss where the year was written and elsewhere along the edges of the paper.

Referring to the January 1828 death of his wife Grace Fletcher Webster, states that he "lost one half of [his] interest, & motives, in all the pursuits of life; & feel very little inclined to effort of any sort." Reports that he hopes to send Mr. Pratt (possibly fellow politician and lawyer Thomas George Pratt) $500 or $1000. Relates receiving a letter from his son Daniel Fletcher Webster, who is in Boston at boarding school. Marked copied.

Serving as Massachusetts Senator, Webster informs his brother-in-law that he will be travelling to Baltimore and Annapolis to assist in settling a legal dispute between the Maryland Rail Road and Canal. Asks if "Mrs. Webster and the girls ... talk and laugh as usual, or [if] the cold weather sealed their lips." Reports that he enjoys the company of Paige's business partner Nathan Appleton, elected in 1830 as Massachusetts Representative, and adds that he anticipates debates about the Tarriff Bill to ensue.

Reports that since the departure of Mr. Curtis, (possibly Edward Curtis, fellow Congressman, lawyer, and friend), he has been "quite alone." Refers to Mr. and Mrs. Joy, possibly mutual friends from Pittsfield, New Hampshire where Webster owned property.

Webster updates his son on arrangements to receive the body of Webster's other son, Major Edward Webster, who had died in camp near Mexico City in January. Reports that General Roger Jones wrote to a friend in New Orleans requesting that the "Remains" of Major Edward Webster continue from New Orleans to New York or Boston. Notes the Court (possibly the Supreme Court) has adjourned and that there is nothing before Congress of a pressing nature to him, except the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which he opposed.
