Says her enjoyment is clouded by her fear Henry will be exposed to the yellow fever. Expresses displeasure at the thought of their continued separation. Reports that "an express arrived here yesterday for Dr. Stevens to attend Colo. Hamilton supposed in the yellow fever." Tells him to remember his promise not to return to Philadelphia. Asks about Augusta (possibly Augusta Dearborn, daughter of Henry Dearborn). "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature.

Letter written by Clarkson, the mayor of Philadelphia, to Nicholson, a famous land speculator, as comptroller general of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He references Nicholson's letter from December 26, 1793. Says he has passed its contents on to the "Committee for the relief of the poor & distressed Citizens" who have been suffering from the "malignant disorder" - yellow fever. They accepted it with thanks and "will cheerfully undertake the distribution thereof as comfortably to your wishes as possible." Small hole where seal was removed. Paper has a watermark.

Nicknamed "Tom" by his family and coming from Buffalo, Dewey served in the army of the Potomac, primarily in Washington at an instructional camp. Many of the letters are addressed to his sister Mary "Mollie" McLean. Dewey stayed in the Army after the war and died of yellow fever in New Orleans during an epidemic only 5 months after re-enlisting in 1867. The collection includes mention of the Petersburg campaign (1864), and includes a carte de visite (unsigned) of Colonel J.P. Gould, who led the 54th Mass. Pages one-three contain a letter to William Bingham. Page 4 has a letter to William Duer. There is only one signature, at the end of the Duer letter. Describes his trip to Elizabethtown. Tells Bingham that Mr. Baucel, the agent to Monsieur D'Espremenil, was waiting when he arrived. Goes into the details of the quid pro quo that Duer offered to D'Espremenil (for background see GLC02437.05930). Believes the arrangement is beneficial to Bingham's interest. Burton and Philip Audebert mention that Knox had previously given them certificates verifying that they had remained in Philadelphia during a fever yellow epidemic in 1793. Write that Congress is now considering providing compensation to those who remained, but the Clerk of Congress has misplaced their certificates. Ask Knox to prepare new ones for them so they might be able to receive the benefits they are owed. Signed by both Burton and Audebert.

Encloses a letter from Fort Washington in Ohio (not included). Says the army marched from the Ohio River on 7 October with 3,000 volunteers and is expecting more.
