List of furniture and utensils belonging to a Mrs. Manson that was retained for the use of the 3rd Provisional Brigade, Colonel Eliakim Scammon's unit. Lists furniture and other items with the number of each and the value. List is the same as GLC 2414.177, and GLC 2414.178. On page two is a short list of items specifically for Colonel Scammon, including a washstand, bowl and pitcher, arm chair, and a small looking glass.

Describes the circumstances under which Mr. Woolley, Captain Uphan, and Lieutenant Ives have resigned or otherwise left the service. Also critiques reporters' accounts of the battle and attempts to describe the battle more clearly for his family. Describes the burning of the railroad bride by the retreating rebels as a way to prevent their capture. Ends the letter by saying that the regiment is off to Beaufort. Predicts that only 300 rebel soldier are there and that there will be no fighting.

The letter begins "Fort Macon is ours." Writes of the rebel troops manning the fort raising the white flag and surrendering. Believes that the 8th Regiment should be allowed to raise their flag over the conquered fort as it was rightfully their victory. Mentions the use of 50 pound parrot guns and the damage caused to Fort Macon after ten hours of fire from the union troops. The rumor is that the Union loss during the battle was 60 men, mostly from New York's 9th Regiment. Asks that his family not spread this around as it is not confirmed yet.

Describes the destruction done to Carlisle's railroad and nearby buildings. Says Ford's regiment has received new tents and is encamped near "the City." He is now the acting orderly for the Provost Marshal. Written on "Head Quarters Provost Marshal..." stationery. Includes an "OFFICIAL" envelope with the "Head Quarters Provost Marshal..." name and address printed on it.

He writes about his frustration with the war's progress and the sense of defeatism he feels. He accuses the government of not thinking critically about the way in which "they use up human flesh." He also discusses the desolation of the area surrounding Fredericksburg. Bartlett also illustrates the dark character of the war at this point, telling Mr. Andrews about their encampment on top of a cemetery. Again, as in previous letters he ends with instructions on what to do with the money he is sending Mr. Andrews.
