Withdraws his suggestion that the 5th Regiment, Maryland Volunteers should concentrate at Fort Donelson, due to the lack of quarters at the fort for additional troops. Relates that Captain Clayton's cavalry company will patrol the state for deserters. Recommends that a company of invalids should be sent to guard the hospital and public stores in Wilmington. One photograph entitled, "Simple fracture of the middle third of the left femur, united without deformity," taken by Charles Milton Bell dated August 1865. Image is of Lieutenant A. W. Starkweather of Indiana, who was thrown from his horse at Black and White Station, Virginia on April 28th, 1865, fracturing the shaft of his left femur. He was admitted to Armory Square Hospital on May 7th. Verso indicates that the photgraph was taken in early August,1865 and that "the case was selected as an interseting illustration of a successful result in a simple fracture of the femur."

A print of a photograph of the main building of the former Corona College in Corinth, MS. The building is three stories and made of brick. A horse-drawn ambulance is parked at the entrance. Note that the columns are also made of brick. Corona College was founded in 1857 as a female seminary. After the Battle of Shiloh in 1862, the Union Army commandeered the college to use as a hospital. The Army left the area in 1864 and burned the building to the ground, the college never re-opened. A print of a photograph of a three-story building in Vicksburg, MS. The Mississippi River can be seen in the background beyond the rest of the city. Title taken from inscription on recto. Stamp of "French & Co., photographers, Vicksburg, Miss." Men posed outside the building and someone standing in the left most bottom window. The building was constructed in 1853 and used as a hospital until 1873 (taken over by the Marines after the end of the siege in 1863). Demolished in 1892. Print is mounted at an angle to the backing material.

Negative by J. Gardner. Taken from "Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the Civil War. No. 21" with text accompanying panel. Heavy fighting took place around the church, and after the battle it was used as a field hospital. This photogrpah was taken some time after the extensive battle damage inflicted on the church was repaired [according to the Dates of creation, the image was taken in July 1863]. Two of Gardner's assistants appear on the right side of the church.

Requests Linton send him about 1000 bushels of cement as soon as possible for the grouting of the old piers which were part of the project to build the first suspension bridge, the Allegheny Suspension Bridge at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Also informs that the undertaker of the Marine Hospital needs 1500 or 2000 bushels of cement as well. There is a note on the verso of the address leaf written later citing information about Roebling from John Bach McMaster's History of the People of the United States.
