In this letter, Michael M. Miller writes home to his wife. He wishes her a merry Christmas and hopes this is the last Christmas apart from her. Him and a friend went to a nearby place to eat and had a big meal for the holiday which he was happy about becaause of a prior food supply shortage. He said that both him and his friend were upset that they hadn't received letters from their wives. He is excited about having sausage for breakfast. Some men from the company are leaving and he lists their names. He says that he would not enlist back into the army if asked and signs off lovingly.

He includes information on military actions (battles at Fort Donelson, Fort Macon, and [Pea?] Ridge), as well as on desertion, scouting expeditions, contrabands, weapon distribution, and spies. His daily entries, written in ink, inlcude brief weather reports, and each month ends with a slightly longer reflection.

He also tells her not to send cigarettes as he gets some in his rations every five days, and to tell his sisters this as well. Coddaire writes another letter from England mentioning his continued journeys. He mentioned meeting up with a roomate's old school chum, and being bored from their talk. He also says he got a V-Mail from Olive and that he regrets not being home for Easter. He is sorry to hear about Pa's rupture, and says that he hopes he takes care of himself. Coddaire also writes about booby trapping a fellow soldiers bed, as the guy kept talking about booby traps.
