Relates that he will present the letters to President Davis, and hopes Ruggles's son will receive the appointment he seeks. Notes, "The Enemy's gun boats are in eight or ten miles of this place, and have been exchanging shots with our batteries yesterday and to-day." Stationery shows an image of the American flag and reads "Long may it wave."
