Written by Lieutenant Colonel Antill to Major General Knox. Returns an enclosed provision order (not included) for rations for his family. Asks him to sign and return it by the bearer of this letter. Says "this form I made has been purused ever since the contract, the second in command to sign these kind of Extra Issues." Says General Heath signed his paperwork last month. The letter is marked as having been sent express. There are several dates on this document, but the 7th was chosen, and Knox's reply at GLC02437.02247 was on 7 July 1783.

Relates that troops from Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania will be equipped as a result of the continued presence of British troops at forts on the northern frontier of the United States. Knox, Commander at West Point, confirms receipt of a letter from Washington in which Washington ordered "a suspension of the troops and stores destined to the Western posts." Reports that there are French refugees in the vicinity of West Point under the direction of a Major Merlet, "who have drawn about one hundred rations to day for men women and children." Relates that Major [Caleb] Gibbs and the Second Massachusetts Regiment will arrive at West Point the same day this letter is written (Gibbs had traveled with his detachment to Philadelphia).
