Resolutions of the Continental Congress recommending that the assemblies of the various colonies to have fire locks and saltpetre manufactured, punish people who harbor deserters, and permit the army to impress vessels for transportation. The resolutions dated 4 November 1775 specify the fire lock supply needs, recommends fines, whipping, and oaths for people who harbor deserters, and ask the New England colonies to grant General Washington the power to impress carriages, horses, and other means of transportation at a "reasonable rate." Schuyler's original was written at Barbados Neck. He lists stipulations for leasing his copper mines to Hoffman. Provides details on the length of the lease (21 years). Limits locations in which Hoffman can dig for ore. Requires eight men to work in the mines for at least eight months per year. Lengthy letter describing the war-time sacrifices of Erhandz Richter, a Richmond brewer, presumably of German origin, who sacrificed his fortune and risked his family to serve in the Union Army. Schurz pleads Richter's cause with the commander of the Dept. of Virginia, asking him to assist Richter in returning to his business, which had been sold off by his partners, who were Confederate sympathizers. With a docket on the verso from Head Quarters in Richmond concerning action to be taken about Richter and his brewery.

Writes that he is sending along 13 1/2 yards of bottle green cloth, of Hartford manufacture. Would have sent more, but only 13 1/2 yards of this color came, and the other colors were too mean and coarse. Estimates that "[t]here will probably be enough for a coat and waistcoat for you and also for Mrs Washingtons rid[in]g dress." Reports that it was fairly inexpensive, only two dollars per yard, and he hopes the package arrives quickly and safely. Knox's retained draft.
