Reports that the pontoon bridge at Lisbon, Georgia is finished. Docket notes that this letter was received 20 March 1865.

General Imboden writes from Headquarters of the Valley District. Imboden's friend, [Aylette?] B. Coleman of Nelson County, Virginia, was a volunteer aid on his staff, "but the promulgation of an order prohibiting men liable under the Conscript Act from holding that position deprived him of it." Requests that Smith, Governor of Virginia, appoint Coleman as an officer to a battalion which is to be organized for guard duty. Docket notes that this recommendation was received 22 March 1864.

Writes, "He is quite young and perhaps hardly understands the nature or obligation of parole- he is such a fine soldier I should like him to be released if possible in any way from his obligation."

General Magruder requests that Captain Jeff Phillips (possibly Jefferson C. Phillips), of the 'Old Dominion Dragoons,' be promoted to the position of Lieutenant Colonel of a cavalry regiment. Relates that Phillips has been recommended by Colonels Hood and Johnson (possibly referring to John Bell Hood). Informs Letcher, Governor of Virginia, "If his signal services be not recognized by promotion it will have an injurious effect on all those who are heroic & properly ambitious."

Writes, "He feels the Common Patriotic impulse of our people and is unwilling to with hold his services from the conflict before us, for the more agreeable occupation which shields him from service."

Mentions that while reading Hall's International Law, he found a reference to "Instructions issued during the war to the Army in reference to the treatment of guerilla, or partisan troops." Asks Wright to acquire the instructions and send them to him (Mosby). Also requests that Wright send any proof sheets that contain information about Mosby's command during the Civil War. Notes that his daughters live in Alexandria, Virginia, and that he hopes Wright will visit them.…

An undated safe conduct pass, signed by Mosby as "Major, CSA." "This prisoner captured by my command in Loudon Co VA. has been sent to the Federal lines." On the verso is the certified promise of William L. Yurk (5th Michigan Cavalry) not to take up arms against the Confederate States until exchanged. The oath, dated 19 May 1863, is witnessed by John R. Carter, Captain of the 8th Virginia Infantry.

Demands one hundred men on the next day to load railway cars. The men must arrive by 8 a.m., have their own officers with them, and bring their own dinners. Year not given, but both men are referred to as Brigadier Generals. In March of 1861 neither Trimble nor Early were in the army. In March 1862 both held the rank of Brigadier General. And by March 1863 both had been promoted to the rank of Major General, meaning the letter must have been written in 1862.

Reports "I have today made a full reconnaisance of the entire front of our position extending from Colchester to Springfield- The party that attacked our pickets in the morning retired immediately after the attack owards Alexandria ... it consisted of about four hundred infantry and seventy eight cavalry; It carried off one or two loyal citizens, and some horses, among them one belonging to a poor free negro...
