Reports the "Jacobins of the wilderness" burnt down Mr. Joseph Jones and Mr. Benjamin Bartlett's barns full of goods. States, "our enemies have not resolution sufficient to meet us but vent their spite on the poor defenseless inhabitants." See GLC02437.07603 for a list of goods lost in the fire.

Interesting letter to Knox, still concerning the insurgents, who apparently call themselves Indians. States Mr. Joseph Jones saw 60 insurgents who were looking for Ulmer and his party; 16 of the men Jones could identify. Says the men are from the county of Lincoln, Maine and hopes Knox speedily apprehends them.

Discusses the sum Joseph Jones and [Benjamin?] Bartlett received for the loss of their barns (the barns were burnt down by the settlers). Also mentions how he had hoped to see Ulmer before his departure from Boston, Massachusetts. A portion of the bottom right corner of the letter is missing causing minor text loss and the loss of Knox's signature.

Settlers living on or near his lands have become upset over issues of land ownership, and worries Knox might encroach on their lands, and recently become violent. Knox also tells Sullivan, "if Thomas Flucker is not gone onboard of any of the Vessells of [near] I pray you to remit immediately the fifty dollars to Mr. Pemberton at Billerica to pay his bills there." Knox encloses the deed for "Mrs. Waldo instead of the one which you have as in that the boundaries are not right." Mentions his disputes with Mackay, Derbey, and Lowell.
