At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Regarding Knox's land holdings in Waldo County, Massachusetts, now Maine. Says that the inhabitants of the lands Knox owns are now much more pleased than last year, that many have paid for their lands, and that others are trying to do so. Ulmer was Knox's representative in this matter. Some however still refuse to pay and are becoming troublesome for Ulmer. Also having some difficulty surveying the lots.
