Admits that the work he has been assigned may take up to seven weeks to complete. Complains that he has received only four days rum since the artillery park left his location. Directed to Lieutenant Colonel Stevens at "Kings Ferry, Westpoint, or New Windsor." Informs Stevens to suspend his movement to Kings Ferry if he is not already there, reporting that "Two twenty Gun ships, two sloops, and a galley belonging to the Enemy" have just passed up the river. Orders Stevens to get all stores on shore if he is at Kings Ferry, as Knox fears losing the stores to the British. Adds, "His Excellency the General has given me orders to risque no peices [sic] or stores..." Written at Philipsburgh, New York (present-day Sleepy Hollow).

Contains two notes, the first informs Ruddock that Freeman Lincoln brought eight teams and military stores from Providence, Rhode Island. In the second note, Knox instructs Ruddock, deputy commissary of military stores at Fishkill, to inspect the stores, which have been sent to Philipsburgh by mistake. Title: Field artillery under the Marquis De LaFayette, June 1781

Document gives the total of Lafayette's field artillery as 10 six pounders, 2 four pounders, 2 three pounders, and 2 five-and-a-half-inch howitzers. The artillery pieces were both captured and made for the Americans. One of the 6 pounders was taken from the Germans at the Battle of Bennington, several pieces were made by James Byers in both New York and Philadelphia, and the others came from various places. Title taken from docket. Docket in Samuel Shaw's hand, indentifying document as relating to Lafayette's artillery.

Townsend, Assistant Adjutant General of the United States Army, details the procedure for the establishment of an artillery school. Includes instructions pertaining to organization, duties of the staff, instruction, examination, and other details. Page three consists of a note handwritten in pencil. Pencil note mentions an 1849 order passed by General Scott (possibly Winfield Scott). Townsend served as a Union Brevet Brigadier General.
