Writes from "home." Announces her engagement to Samuel J. Thompson. Says she intended to tell Ogden during their last meeting, but did not get the chance, and Christmas preparations have kept her from responding sooner. Describes Thompson as "a very honest, plain dealing good hearted man, remarkable for nothing but his good disposition and kind heart." Says she will be visiting her uncle, John Mitchel, in about three or four weeks and hopes to see Ogden soon.

Pankow, who was engaged to William Hartman, tells Ogden that he kept two pictures of the two of them. Requests Ogden sends her the pictures if possible. Mentions that Mr. Hartman's son-in-law's brother, a "comrade of William," would have visited Ogden when he was in Philadelphia, but did not receive the letter in time. States that the family received the body and opened the coffin because they "could not bear to have the body of their beloved son as near and not see him." She concludes by thanking Ogden for caring for William.
