Title: Proclamation to all peacably disposed citizens of the State of Missouri...

This is a proclamation stating that any citizen arrested for their political opinions on the Civil War within the State of Missouri are to be released as per an agreement between Major General Price, and Major General Freemont. It also states that there will be no more arrests or threats as a result of political opinions from citizens and that "the war now progressing shall be exclusively confined to armies in the field" Written at Cassvile and Springfield.

Paul informs his wife that he is not in the hospital anymore, and asks if she received the money he sent her. He assures her that he will be coming home with the rest of his company and that the rest of his regiment had a hard march, but they did not fight in the battle [Chancellorsville?]. He discusses the cold weather and the regiment's need to build their own winter quarters. He grumbles about the hardships of the soldier's life (food, work, etc.) and writes about how much the regiment has walked since August, boasting that he is doing very well but reporting that Henry is not. He mentions that there are 1500 Indian prisoners the army is guarding. Written in camp in Forest City, Minnesota.

In his letter, Edwin Jackson mentions that his brother, Henry, is getting a discharge due to his poor health; Edwin hopes this discharge will be processed soon. He discusses the school for Indian prisoners, describing it first as an expensive folly of the state but then complimenting the "poor miserable creatures" on their singing. He asks Bill to lend him money, as he doesn't know when they will be paid. He describes proudly how his clean gun passed inspection. He also mentions lady visitors who brought the troops popcorn and cakes. Written in camp in Forest City, Minnesota.
