A group of six children stand in the middle of the street in the foreground. Camp Nelson was a recruiting and training station for Federal soldiers during the war. Written at Fort Nelson.

"If they were generally and systematically whipt starved and shot to death and if there were no rational ground of hope for speedy relief, it would be the duty as well as the instinct of these people to rise up, not in squads of tens or companies of hundreds, and move off to the north..." Signed "Very truly yours" at the end.

Noted as a copy. Discusses the lots, boundaries, and legal issues of the settlers in Bangor, Maine. Encloses (not included) a plan for Bangor, Maine that shows the settlers lots, the names of the settlers before 17 February 1798, and the names of the present owners. Page three contains extract of a letter from John Gleason discussing the quality of the land. Letter is originally addressed to John Gleason but it may have been forwarded to Knox due to Gleason's extract that was added.

One Dutch document concerning a land grant to Christian Pietersen in Bergen dated May 4, 1667. Verso has a manuscript (also in Dutch) signed by Christian Pietersen and five others and dated 4 May 1667 from Bergen. The land granted consisted of two lots with a garden and farm house. Written in a compressed Elizabethan secretarial hand in Dutch, with paper seal. Signed by Stuyvesant as governor.
