Replies to Eustis's letters written on the 17th and 23rd (see GLC02437.04479). Discusses the situation of the invalids, particularly the invalid pensioners. Upon reviewing the subject with other general members, believes it to be impracticable to obtain a new inspection of the invalids. States that "the subjects of invalid pensions had better remain on its present footing for the following reasons..." Goes on to list the reasons, most of which deal with how the individual states handle their own invalids and finances. Also discusses his legal trouble with the Waldo patent.

Relates that all shells and shot will be finished in several weeks. Instructs Knox to inform his wife, Lucy Flucker Knox, that Faesch does not have any tea kettles on hand, but will make some for her in six weeks.

Writes, "Copy of a letter from Captain Jones adjutant to the Commissioner of War - We have eleven Boats at Westham at present unmanned. There are twelve Canoes under the direction of Nathaniel Anderson properly equiped. I have a sum of Specie which will enable me to Man the Boats in case of Emergency; and on timely notice can have the Canoes at Westham, which I expect will be sufficient to remove nearly the whole of the Arms you Mention." Reports that the barracks are well prepared, and requests extra straw.

Apparently Forrest has failed to resign his post, and Eustis wants to know who will take charge in his stead. Says Forrest "continues speckulating."

Written and initialed for Knox in the hand of Samuel Shaw, Knox's aide-de-camp. Writes, "I have received your letter enclosing a return of stores now at Verplancks and Stony Points. The deficiencies, as far as will complete each piece of ordnance to one hundred rounds of ball and twenty of grape shot, shall be sent down as soon as possible - also the carpenters tools as far as they can be supplied. I shall take an opportunity of reporting to the commander in chief the situation of those posts with respect to the guards of infantry who do duty there."

Also discusses his efforts to increase attendance at society meetings, and mentions the election of delegates to the next general meeting.
