Describes the British fortifications at Yorktown and Gloucester and expresses his "fervent hope to see the American Colours...displayed upon the British lines."

Lieutenant William Pratt's testimony for the trial of Lieutenant Wheaton. Accuses Wheaton of shirking his duty and of arresting him without due cause. According to Pratt, despite being the commanding officer, Wheaton had tried to pass command to Pratt, and had Pratt arrested when he refused. Other charges include "Issuing an order totally unmilitary & ordering Lieut [Greenman?] in arrest for disobedience of it; compelling a soldier who was under his command last winter to give him two pair of boots & one pair of shoes, without compensation; pedling [sic] out goods to the soldiers…

Wheaton ordered Pratt to take command of a company, threatening to arrest him if he refused. Also complains that Wheaton sold supplies, including handkerchiefs, he received from Albany. Testifies concerning the accusation against Lieutenant Wheaton for illegally turning over his command to Sergeant Pratt, a subordinate officer. States that Mr. Pratt, in "compliance with the Baron's [Steuben] wishes he would acknowledge that he ought not to have treated the order in the manner he did, and expect that Mr. Wheaton would concede on his part that the order was unmilitary - Mr. Wheaton refused." Note on verso states this is a sealed deposition to be opened in court.

Baron writes 31 December 1782 on behalf of the heirs of the estate of Samuel Warren, a "shaking quaker," to ask that Warren's eldest son, Seth, a soldier, receive a furlough to return to the estate to help settle his inheritance. On page two, in an autograph note signed 4 January 1783, John Doughty replies that General Henry Knox has no objection to Seth Warren taking a furlough, but since many men from the Corps of Invalids have already taken furloughs and left, he has referred the case to the Commander in Chief. Writes to Captain [possibly Nathaniel] Donnell to argue on behalf of a John Moder, a soldier who serves under Donnell. Moder recently deserted, but he came back, which allowed him to receive a free pardon for his desertion. Prior to this event, he bargained with a Corporal Kelly, Corporal Woodstock, and Colonel Popkin for his depreciation notes, and they were sent to Captain Donnell. According to Moder, Captain Donnell will not give Moder his notes because of his desertion, even though he has been pardoned.
