Smith responds to an editorial published by Marsh, editor of Journal and Prohibitionist, New York. Marsh accused Smith of being "unsound on Temperance." Also replies to a published letter from Giddings, in which Giddings sought to defend the Republican party. Calls Republicanism a "one-idea-Party" unwilling to eradicate slavery.
