Writes, "I have the honor to report my continued presence in Washington City, awaiting orders for the field, with Brig Gen T. W. Sherman, to whom I was reassigned by the Secretary of War. Includes his address. Includes a note written by Edward Davis Townsend, Assistant Adjutant General, 11 August 1862. Townsend states that Badeau will report to General Thomas Sherman, from whose staff he has not been properly relieved.
