Writes that he is still selling his stock. "[W]ent within ten miles of the Savannah river. I found the country almost a desert, and all the people as poor as rats. Some who formerly had splendid dwellings surrounded by every luxury, are now living in little log cabins formerly occupied by slaves...I know a man in this village who had nearly a thousand bales on hand when Sherman's army entered the place, twelve hours later he had not a single bale. Harry, half dressed, proceeded me revolver stuck into his pocket. Our danger, melted away when we saw Mother, Bille, and Annie reading a telegraph saying that Minnie started[home] tonight..."

The democrats "had an unpleasant time indeed at their grand turnout. . . ." He adds "I hope that Buffalo will go Republican and now I don't think them in any doubt who will be president in 1865. The 112th Regiment [New York] has not done very badly, there being 250 votes for Lincoln & five (5) for McClellan[;] don't you think it is pretty well[?]" Provides news concerning friends.
