One photograph of railroad workers standing by the Central Pacific Railroad's engine "Jupiter," photographed by Andrew J. Russell, dated May 10, 1869. The image seems to have been taken the same day as the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads were joined at Promontory Summit, Utah, to form the First Transcontinental Railroad. The CPRR's "Jupiter" would be one of the two engines to meet at the Golden Spike ceremony, which celebrated the project's completion (See GLC04881.03).

Tyler remits penalties incurred by the British barque Redwing, which had arrived at New York with excess passengers. Dudley Persse, the consignee of the Redwing, and James Evans, the Master, petitioned for a remission of the penalties incurred based on the fact that when the ship first sailed it was in compliance with United States laws.
