Written and signed by Charles Selden, who certifies that this document is an exact transcript of garrison orders issued by Brigadier General Henry Jackson.

Marked as a "coppy," by Major Bauman. Bauman, commanding the artillery at West Point, writes to Hull, commandant of West Point. Bauman expresses his "surprise and grief" at Hull's order requiring captains to be detailed by an adjutant, thus placing the artillery in rotation with the infantry to perform common duties. Declares, "it is unwarrantable... to send Artillery men into the lines, and infantry on the Batteries." Threatens to take his complaints to Henry Knox, the Secretary of War, then Congress if Hull does not withdraw his order.

Anticipates his suspension, noting the command of ordnance and stores should pass to the next senior officer until he receives a proper investigation. Requests a supply of firewood in the interim. Implies that Hull denied this suspension, stating "... if you can not suspend with what I have requested in my two letters... you may deprive me of what command I have left in what manner you please..." Bauman, in charge of the artillery at West Point, complains of "a most cingular circumstance that is agitated against the honor of my command and disparagement of the corps of Artillery." Gives numerous reasons for his disagreement with Lieutenant Colonel William Hull (commandant of West Point). Hull's orders placed artillery on regular garrison duty under direction of the adjutant. Bauman refused to comply and was suspended at his own request. Bauman complains that he can not carry out his artillery duties when ordered on garrison duty, declaring "...I cannot in justice to the trust…

Captain Bryant encloses a return of stores at Springfield (not included). Reports on other events at Springfield, including a disagreement over the rights to a house on Captain George Pynchon's land. Reports that when General [Benjamin] Lincoln was at Springfield, he dismissed the men stationed there, ordering Bryant to make out a pay roll. Bryant complains that Lincoln thereafter sent money to the men, but not to him: "I have near twenty five months pay due and know not who to apply to for aney [sic] but to your Honour- necessity has obliged me to run in debt..."
