She reports that Edna reluctantly left for Iowa, but that her grandmother was relieved although she felt bad about it as well. He outlines his plans to visit a congregational church at Essex Junction that night and how those plans were derailed by a quarantine going into effect. "we can't leave camp now until further notice. One letter from Teddy Starkey to Rosa Starkey dated June circa 1917-1918. He reports on the quarantine that he has been under. It was lifted the day before and the men were allowed to leave after getting their mouths, noses, and throats sprayed twice. The man that caused the quarantine was named How from N.H. "after being unconscious for 40 hours died." After they were released Teddy went to Queen City Park for dinner. He signs off saying he has to catch the next electric back to the fort but sends his love. Another letter by Starkey is GLC09601.

Garaudy also mentions the injuries and deaths of 4 Korean soldiers. He remarks that he does not live on the base but on a perimeter base, which has been termed "Happy Valley." Garaudy asks Nancy if she would like silk material or pre-made dress. Asks her not to worry as he is taking care of himself. In a postscript, he mentions the latest intelligence report of an expected mortar attack followed by a ground attack.
