Copy. Contains two letters to Jackson from Flint, written on the same date. As Colonel [William] Duer has recently become insolvent, Flint tries to plan ways to raise the money he owes for their business arrangements, particularly regarding their land speculation project with Henry Knox. Comments on Jackson's recent purchase of townships in Maine, and Madame de Leval's proposed settlement in that area. The second letter assures Jackson that someone will depart the next morning with the necessary funds.

The first, by Royal Flint, written on 3 April, relates that he has been told by Henry Jackson that the Committee has agreed to sell them certain state-owned lands in Maine, and he authorizes Jackson to negotiate the contract for the purchase of land. Has not written to Duer since his financial misfortune, but this has merely been due to his busy schedule and not from lack of friendship. Adds he has corresponded with Duer's wife, Lady Kitty (Catharine Alexander Duer) (see GLC02437.05386). Assures Duer he cares just as much for him now as before. Discusses some business matters, including Madame de Leval's settlement of their lands in Maine. Encourages him to keep up his spirits. Signs his name with the initial K.

Also adds that he has heard that General [John] Brooks will decline his military appointment, and that Major [Samuel] Shaw will be getting married.
