Clerical copy of an excerpt of a Townshend letter dated 6 March 1777. Townshend was Master General of the Board of Ordinance in England. Written to Carleton, the British General and Governor of Canada. Postmarked from Portman Square, in Westminster, England. Says the two cadets were not yet provided for, so he placed them in the "late augmentation" of artillery, so they would not lose their regimental rank by being abroad. Leaves it up to Carleton to place them. Also says there are not sufficient cadets qualified enough to serve abroad and has not sent any out.

Recipient is unknown, but might be Robert Kingston, a staff officer of General John Burgoyne. Says a few days previously, the General (probably Burgoyne) told him there were a dozen firelocks at headquarters he could have to arm the provincials. Wants recipient to deliver them to the bearer of this letter, a sergeant in Captain Macalpin's Corps. Note at bottom by recipient says he received 16 firelocks brought in by inhabitants and that they were given to Macalpin's Corps.…

Certifies the account that 1020 pounds of Halifax currency is due to Jacob Jordan for the use of 400 horses and 200 drivers to pull his artillery during the campaign around Saratoga 1 October 1777 to 17 October 1777. Countersigned by Jonathan Carter, Commissary of Horse for the Royal Artillery, approving the account documented by Phillips.

Title: Objections, by the 24th Regt.

List of two objections the 24th Regiment of Foot had against the Articles of Convention that delineated the terms of surrender of the British Army after its defeat in the Battle of Saratoga. Seems to be written in the months after the battle at Cambridge, Massachusetts, where prisoners of war were sent, but no exact date or place of creation are provided. First complaint is that officers are not quartered according to rank and that their living spaces are sub-par. The second complaint is about the distinction made between field officers and other officers of regiments in the parole process.…
