Walley has been giving Langdon money to support his wife (Walley's daughter) and nine children, but "as he is entirely Idle & not earning one Copper, I could sincerely wish he might get into some kind of business, whereby he might be earning something towards the Support of his Family." Instead, suggests that Walley buy a plot of land in Maine for his son-in-law, daughter, and their nine children.

Rather than discussing the government, she wishes to enquire as to the health of Mrs. Knox and family, and ask Knox to forward the enclosed letter to her friend Mrs. Montgomery. Suggests the Knoxes come for a visit, and discusses her desire to travel to New York.…

Will deliver the enclosure to Mrs. Montgomery's family while she is out of town. Was upset that he did not have time to visit her and her husband General [James] Warren while in Boston on business. Hopes to be able to visit them in Plymouth the next time he is in the area. Wishes she and General Warren would visit New York; suggests that if the length of the land route would deter them, they might have a "convenient, safe and pleasant" passage by water. Then…

Express his concern over some "unsettled business" between Duer and Walker which might make it difficult to proceed. Hopes Walker can assure that Duer will assist this process.

Two parts. First part is addressed to Benjamin Walker and discusses a deed to land. Notes he received Walker's letter pertaining to the St. Lawrence lands. Mentions he has repeatedly asked Duer for copies of several notes but that Duer has been unable to locate them. Also discusses Madam de Leval's intention of applying to the Massachusetts Legislature regarding her land claim. Believes if that were to happen the contract will likely be lost. Second part is a copy of a receipt written in Knox's hand from William Duer. Confirms Duer's receipt of money from Knox.

Reports that Madame Leval "has been endeavoring to make such negotiations as would exonerate you from all responsibility, but Hither to without effect." She is trying to change the agreement, which may go into effect before Walker's has to make payments. At present she wants $40,000, which Knox thinks she will not get.
