Possibly written in support of Holabird's appointment as United States District Attorney for the state of Connecticut.

Hamlin writes at the request of Ransom Clark Canfield of Bridgeport, who Holabird brought a case against for penalties under the United States Revenue Laws. Discusses Canfield's position, stating that he wishes to hear if and/or when Holabird plans on having the case tried. Relates that Canfield is "confident you have been deceived by others, as to the evidence which can be adduced against him; and that you will be satisfied, when the trials are over, if not before, that the prosecutions were without cause."

Ingersoll certifies that the the land of P. N. Fitzgerald and John E. Lunde is worth $2000 (writes in behalf of Gregory Anthony Perdicaris, recently appointed Consul to Athens, Greece). A letter from Perdicaris to Holabird is included on the same page, stating that the State Department requires Holabird to approve Perdicaris's bond.

Ingersoll (a Circuit Court judge), and others active in Connecticut politics.
