At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Possibly created by Samuel Church (signed as "S. Church"). Writes "I feel a great interest in the professional success of a brother who has ever been peculiarly dear to me... his present location is in more respects than one ill suited to his present prospects..." Possibly written in support of Holabird's appointment as United States District Attorney for the state of Connecticut.
